Israel sets up checkpoints and builds dirt mounds to re-mark the borders of greater Jerusalem in an attempt to separate East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank. Israeli authorities start to monitor where East Jerusalem Palestinians live and to deny them residency if they transfer their “center of life” outside the city. This policy will be more actively enforced beginning in 1995.

Preparations for a war in the Gulf. Fearing attacks by Iraqi missiles carrying chemical warheads, the Israeli government decides to distribute gas masks to all citizens and residents. Following an intervention by the Supreme Court, the distribution will include Palestinian residents of the Occupied Territories.
